Christian Coalition of Ohio/CCA Opposes HB554

COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Christian Coalition of Ohio/CCA advocates for a true “all-of-the-above” approach to energy reform.  In recognizing the many natural assets that Ohio has been blessed with, the Christian Coalition of Ohio/CCA believes that all families should have access to reliable renewable and alternative energy sources.  Said State Director Tyler Duvelius, “We want to ensure that Ohio has a responsible energy policy and does not get left behind as other conservative states continue to pass energy reform measures with renewable energy standards.”

A recent study shows that an energy reform policy that includes even moderate renewable energy standards would stand to create 100,000 new jobs in Ohio by 2030.  The same study also shows a $40 million savings for Ohio electric customers by 2030.  These energy efficient measures will put more money into families, churches, and small businesses.  A lack of energy standards will create continued economic uncertainty in Ohio as businesses look to bring new jobs to our state.

Another consideration in the Christian Coalition of Ohio/CCA’s opposition to HB554 is the national security implications.  Ohio is the seventh largest consumer of energy in the nation.  Ohio energy independence will go a long way toward creating an energy independent America.  Energy independence will free America from our dependency of foreign oil from the Middle East.

“As a conservative, I am proud to advocate for an issue supported by 72% of conservative voters in Ohio,” said Tyler Duvelius.  According to the recent Ohio Conservative Energy Forum poll cited by Duvelius, 62% of Ohio conservatives support gradually increasing enforceable renewable energy standards by 5% over the next five years while 82% support programs that will encourage energy efficiency.
